Retired police officer charged with sexual assault
A retired police officer is facing charges after an alleged sexual assault incident at the Westfield mall.
Police said Garfield Burns, 62, who retired from the Bridgeport Police Department in 2005, had been coming into the Brookstone store regularly to sit in the massage chairs. During the time he had been coming into the store he had become friendly with a female employee.
According to reports, on September 11 Burns was talking to the employee when she said he grabbed her hand and kissed it, then told her she was “delicious.” He then leaned into her chest and kissed her breast, police said. The employee reported the incident to police, who reviewed footage from the store’s security cameras, which confirmed her account.
Burns was charged with fourth-degree sexual assault and second-degree breach of peace. Bond was $5,000 for court December 27. Burns had faced similar charges in 2011 after he was arrested in Stratford for groping a WalMart employee's buttocks.
