A Reservoir Avenue man was arrested for criminal mischief in the third degree at an Elberta Avenue home at 10:10 a.m. Tuesday, May 24.

Police said Joseph Collins, 35, punched a hole through the wall in his girlfriend’s house after an anonymous call to the department’s dispatch center earlier in the morning.

According to a report, Trumbull officers responded to the Elberta Avenue residence at 3:25 a.m. when they received the call which alluded to a possible assault at the residence.

At the scene, officers found no evidence that an assault had taken place, the report said.

The initial response irritated Collins, according to police, which led to a verbal argument between he and his girlfriend.

The property damage was discovered by the woman’s husband when he arrived at the scene to drop off the couple’s daughter, which triggered Trumbull police’s second visit to the home that morning.

Police said that the couple is currently separated and that the husband owns the home. He wanted to press charges against Collins for the damage.

Collins was released on a promise to appear and appeared in court Wednesday, May 25.
