Mother breaks down door with hammer, son fights stepdad

A mother and her son were arrested for disorderly conduct and assault in the third degree, respectively, at their Chestnut Hill Road home at 6:16 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2.

Police said Jovan Sargent, 23, and Jeanette Sherrod-Domowitz, 49, got into a verbal argument while driving home and that Sargent went upstairs to his room and locked his door after the conflict.

According to a report, Sherrod-Domowitz attempted to break off the door knob with a hammer when her son wouldn’t let her into his room. She eventually broke off the door knob with the hammer, police said, and Sargent tried getting the tool out of his mother’s hands.

The report added that Sherrod-Domowitz’s husband, Sargent’s stepfather, heard the altercation going on upstairs between the mother and son and tried to break it up.

Police said the stepfather suffered an injury to his face — he had laceration above his eye when officers responded to the scene — during a physical altercation with Sargent over the hammer.

Sargent told police he was using self-defense during the conflict and that he was pushed onto his bed by his stepfather.

Sherrod-Domowitz called the police to report the incident and when officers arrived at the scene she was charged with disorderly conduct and released with a promise to appear.

Sargent was released on a $500 bond. The stepfather refused to be taken to the hospital by Trumbull EMS.

The mother and son were scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, Nov. 3.

Cocaine possession

A Brookfield man was arrested for possession of narcotics on Horseshoe Drive at 1:02 a.m. Friday, Oct. 30.

Police said Kevin Brown, 20, was found to be in possession of one gram of cocaine after being searched during a traffic stop.

According to a report, a Trumbull police officer saw Brown’s vehicle run through a stop sign near Old Town Road and Frenchtown Road. When the officer pulled Brown’s car over, the driver failed to produce registration and his hands were visibly shaky.

The officer asked Brown to step outside the car and a body search found that the driver was in possession of a white substance that he admitted was cocaine.

Brown was released on a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court Friday, Nov. 6.

DUI on White Plains Road

A Monroe man was arrested for driving under the influence on White Plains Road at 12:43 a.m. Friday, Oct. 30.

Police said Michael Gabriel, 38, was driving erratically and making lane changes without a signal near the intersection of White Plains Road and Reservoir Road.

According to a report, a police officer followed Gabriel’s vehicle and he continued swerving into other lanes.

Gabriel was pulled over and slurred his speech when the officer asked him for his license and registration, police said.

He was taken out of the vehicle and failed several field sobriety tests before being taken back to the Trumbull Police Department.

He was released on a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, Nov. 10.
