Police find gun, pot in parked car, arrest driver
An alert police officer tracking tire treads behind a vacant Oakview Drive building arrested the driver after finding a loaded gun with a high capacity magazine and marijuana.
Arrested was Kaison Reed-Sheffey, 27, of Robert Street, Bridgeport. He was charged with carrying a pistol without a permit, possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle and possession of a high capacity magazine. He also received an infraction for marijuana possession.
The officer also issued an infraction to Kayla Padilla, 18, of Beers Street, Bridgeport after a small bag of marijuana was found in her purse. She was released on a promise to appear.
Police Capt. Keith Golding said the officer was on routine patrol when he noticed tire tracks leading behind a vacant office building on 100 Oakview Drive. As he approached the vehicle he saw two individuals climbing from the back seat to the front seat. The officer also smelled the pungent marijuana smoke.
While being questioned Reed-Sheffey told the officer they just stopped to smoke. The gun, magazine and marijuana were found during the search. The gun, a Taurus 9mm, will require further investigation to determine its origins, Golding said.
