Police have arrested a man they say is responsible for the May 4 armed robbery of a Mobil gas station at 2775 Nichols Ave.

Angel Antonio Ortiz, 45, of Bridgeport, was arrested last Thursday, with help from a witness, Police told The Times on Tuesday.

The robbery occurred on Sunday evening May 4, around 6 p.m. Police said Ortiz brandished a gun during the robbery and made off with $705 from two cash registers.

Police pursued the suspect on foot, with help from the Stratford Police Canine Unit, but the scent was lost. Trumbull Police said a tip helped them identify Ortiz and the witness later identified him in a photo line-up.

Ortiz is charged with first-degree robbery and fifth-degree larceny. He was detained by Bridgeport Police, who contacted the Trumbull department. The gun he allegedly had during the robbery was not recovered, police said.

His bond was set at $100,000 and he is set to appear in court June 2.
