Police: Woman shoplifts, leaves child in the store

A Haviland Drive resident was arrested last Friday for allegedly shoplifting and then leaving her six year-old unattended in the mall, while she dropped stolen items off in the car.

Police said Abir Arar, 40, was with her six year-old and had a 2 year-old in a stroller Friday night, when she allegedly began selecting items from J.C. Penny. Police said the older child was also helping to select items. Later, Arar allegedly walked out without paying. Police said she left her six year-old in the mall when she went out to the car.

Police said she attempted to steal $262 worth of items. She was charged with two counts of risk of injury to a minor, leaving a child unsupervised and sixth-degree larceny.

Her bond was set at $1,500 and she is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 22.
