Police: Trumbull officer assaulted by New Jersey man

Two men were arrested and a police officer was allegedly punched in the face, following a argument at a Trumbull home in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Zenyk Kosarych, 60, of Franklin Park, N.J. and his girlfriend were staying with friends in Trumbull when the incident occurred, according to police.Police were called to the home around 4:30 a.m. Nov. 15, after the Trumbull man’s wife and Kosarych’s girlfriend were woken up by the two men arguing.

Police said when they arrived, Kosarych was attempting to leave, but was heavily intoxicated and allegedly began swinging at the officer, punching him in the face. The man was placed in handcuffs and the officer entered the house, where he heard more yelling. According to police, Kosarych had also allegedly hit his girlfriend before police arrived.

Kosarych was later charged with assault on a police officer, interfering with an officer, disorderly conduct, and threatening in the second degree. His bond was set at $15,000.

The Trumbull resident, William Westerfield, 55, was also arrested after police said he was not cooperative and was arguing with officers. He was charged with interfering with an officer and disorderly conduct. His bond was set at $10,000 and he will appear in court Dec. 1.
