Police: Suspect snatched purse from Trumbull woman
UPDATE: The woman who was attacked, spoke to The Times Wednesday, thanking police. See story here.
An elderly woman was knocked down and her purse taken in front of her home on Madison Avenue Tuesday morning, according to police.
Trumbull Police told the The Times that the woman and her husband had just arrived home from grocery shopping, around 11:30 a.m. Her husband was bringing in the groceries when the suspect allegedly knocked over the woman, who uses a cane, and took her purse.
Police described the male as white, in his 20s, about 5"10, with a muscular build. He was reportedly wearing a beige jacket, black knit hat, black pants and he fled on foot, south on Madison Avenue, toward Blackhouse Road. Police searched the area but did not locate the suspect, according to police, and the investigation is ongoing.
Police told The Times a similar incident was recently reported in Shelton. Lt. Leonard Scinto said this is an unusual crime for Trumbull, though he can recall a case, about six or seven years ago, where a man was arrested for following people home from the grocery store and committing a similar crime.
