An alleged attempt to steal a bag of day-old bagels landed a Trumbull man behind bars Monday morning.

Police said Louis Bevilacqua, 40, of Washington St., assaulted an employee at Bruegger’s Bagels the morning of April 6, when confronted while trying to take the bag of bagels.

Police said Bevilacqua shoved the employee, allegedly leaving a red mark, and threw the bag of bagels at her.
He fled out the back, but was later apprehended by police.

Bevilacqua was also allegedly identified as a suspicious person in a call earlier Monday morning. Staff at Christian Heritage School said a suspicious man, matching Bevilacqua’s description, entered the school and said he wanted his water bottle filled. Staff said he became upset that they did not fill the bottle all the way, but he then left before police arrived.

Bevilacqua was charged with sixth-degree larceny, third-degree assault and breach of peace in the second degree.
He was held overnight for a court appearance Tuesday.
