Police: Pursuit suspects drove over lawn, fled in stolen car
An early morning chase ended when a pair of suspects in a stolen Honda Civic evaded Trumbull police and fled toward Bridgeport shortly after 3:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.
According to Captain Keith Golding, a Calhoun Avenue resident reported seeing a suspicious vehicle driving slowly through the neighborhood, while a passenger of that vehicle was attempting to break into cars parked in driveways. Police spotted the car, a 2016 Honda Civic with registration plate AL90797, on Calhoun Avenue near Hyde Terrace. The car had been reported stolen in East Lyme on December 26.
"The first officer on scene saw a male in dark clothing get into the passenger side of the vehicle just before it sped away towards Main Street," Golding said. "The vehicle drove over the front lawn of a Hyde Terrace residence and around the approaching patrol car to make [its] escape."
Officers attempted to catch up to the vehicle, but lost contact with it after it turned east onto Church Hill Road. The Honda was last seen traveling south toward the Bridgeport line.
Several residents later reported that items had been stolen from their parked vehicles.
Trumbull police continue to remind all residents to always lock their vehicles and never leave keys or valuables inside. Report any suspicious activity as soon as possible to the Trumbull Police Department directly at 203-261-3665, 911 or via the anonymous and confidential tip line on the police website, trumbull-ct.gov/policetips.
