Police Log: Larceny charges, shoplifting device and handbag theft

A 20 year-old Bridgeport man was arrested on a warrant April 28, for allegedly stealing handbags from Lord & Taylor last February.

Brinden Fernandes was charged with larceny in the fifth and sixth degree.

Police said they served the warrant after Fernandes had been arrested by Milford Police.

He was given a May 6 court date.


Police say a man and woman tried to flee security after stealing men’s clothing items from Macy’s last Saturday.

The male suspect escaped but police arrested Lafatique Washington, 22, and charged her with larceny in the sixth degree and conspiracy to commit larceny in the fifth degree.

Police said Washington and the male were picking up men’s clothing items of varied sizes and brought the items to the bottom floor of the store, where they tried to put the items in a bag and leave.

Washington was given a $500 bond and a April 27 court date.

Shoplifting device

Two male suspects tried to tamper with the magnetic security strip on a 40-inch flat screen television at Target on Hawley Lane, in order to steal it, police said.

One suspect got away but Owen McBean, 23, was arrested and charged with sixth-degree larceny and possession of a shoplifting device.

He was given a $1,000 bond and a May 6 court date.
