Police: Hostage phone scam targeting residents in the area
Police are reminding residents that scammers are still targeting the area, calling residents and pretending a loved one is being held for ransom.
The most common story involves a report of a motor vehicle accident that the caller claims involves a relative of the victim, leading to a demand for money.
If you receive a call of this nature police say not to provide any family information over the phone. Do not panic, police say. Remain calm and ask specific questions, such as asking where the incident occurred or ask them to describe what your relative looks like.
Save the callers number and voicemail, or text message and call the police immediately.
