No serious injuries in airborne car crash on White Plains Road

Two women escaped serious injury when a Volkswagen Beetle careened off the road and into a wooded area at the intersection of Old Town Road and White Plains Road Sunday evening.

According to Trumbull Volunteer Fire Co. volunteer Alex Relkin, it appears to be a case of driver error.

“She meant to apply the brakes, but instead put her foot on the gas and floored it,” Relkin said. “The car hit the curb, and went airborne over the guardrail and about 15-20 feet into the woods.”

The car came to rest against a large tree, with the front of the car on the ground. Both the driver and passenger were able to get out of the car on their own.

“They were very lucky to walk away,” Relkin said.
