Man leads police on chase through Trumbull

A Derby man faces charges after a police chase Wednesday, that started in Bridgeport and ended in Trumbull.

Lt. John Cummings of Bridgeport Police radioed in that he was behind a stolen car in the area of East Main Street and Noble Avenue at about 9:30 a.m., and Officer Theodore Montagna  got behind the vehicle at East Main and Pennsylvania Avenue.

He attempted to pull over the car, but the driver refused to stop. The suspect led police into Trumbull but officers lost sight of the vehicle in the area of East Lake Road. A short time later, Lt. Brian Fitzgerald radioed that the car was in the area of Palmer Avenue and West Lake Road. The car, a Honda Civic, had crashed into a fence and the driver, identified as John Fisher, 25, of Derby, had fled on foot.

Officer Daniel Garcia and Fitzgerald took him into custody a short time later.

Police from numerous towns in the Greater Bridgeport area had been looking for the car in connection with burglaries in their towns.

Fisher was charged with motor vehicle violations by Trumbull police and by Bridgeport police with second-degree larceny, engaging police in pursuit, reckless driving and operating under suspension.

He also was served with several outstanding warrants.
