Kohl’s store security stops known shoplifter

A Bridgeport man was arrested for larceny in the fifth degree at the Kohl’s in the Hawley Lane mall around 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 11.

Police said Francisco Vega, 49, was observed by the store’s loss prevention department taking a sports bag and stuffing it with several shirts before walking toward the store’s exit.

According to a report, Vega was approached by security as he attempted to exit the store and he threw the bag and all the merchandise to the ground. He was apprehended and store security found $570 worth of items, including the cost of the bag.

The loss prevention department told Trumbull officers at the scene that Vega was a repeat offender at the store and a search revealed that he had two PRAWN warrants out for his arrest.

He was held on a $1,000 bond before being brought to court the following morning to face the previous charges.

He was scheduled to appear in court on the most recent larceny arrest Wednesday, May 18.
