A failure to yield the right of way led to a two-car collision on Elm Street Monday, June 18, that sent two people to the hospital.

According to the Monroe Volunteer Fire Department, No.1 Inc., the accident happened on Elm Street near Purdy Hill Road.  

“One occupant was quickly extricated from their vehicle and both drivers were taken the a nearby hospital for evaluation,” an online statement said.

The road was closed for about an hour.

Along with Monroe volunteers, fire crews from  the Stepney Fire Department were also on scene with officers from the Monroe Police Department.

Monroe Volunteer Emergency Medical Service helped transport both drivers who were treated for unspecified injuries.

Monroe police issued one summons for failure to yield the right of way. The name of the driver had not been released as of press time Wednesday.
