A Shelton man who allegedly struck a stone wall with his car and fled the scene was charged with driving under the influence April 21.

Police said Frank Lupariello, 22, allegedly admitted to police he had just done heroin, other drugs and drank whiskey before the accident on Teller Road last Tuesday afternoon.

Once he struck the wall, he reportedly spoke to the homeowner, but sounded irrational. He then fled, but was picked up by police. Lupariello allegedly said he needed to go back to rehab and only ran because he was scared. He reportedly told police he was experiencing hallucinations, including that bugs were crawling on him.

He was charged with DUI, evading responsibility and failure to drive right. After he was processed by Trumbull police, Lupariello was picked up by Monroe police for a minor hit and run accident there.

He is scheduled to appear in court May 4.
