Cops identify victim, driver in fatal crash on Nichols Avenue
Trumbull police have identified the two Bridgeport drivers who collided in a fatal crash on Nichols Avenue around 9 a.m. Saturday morning.
Lt. Leonard Scinto said that the victim was Phek Ing, 62, of Bridgeport.
Witnesses told police Ing's vehicle was struck getting off of Route 8 southbound and turning onto Nichols Avenue (Route 108), where a second vehicle was headed northbound on the state road and hit the driver's side of Ing's vehicle.
The driver of the second car was identified as Walter Mayorga, 42, of Bridgeport, Lt. Scinto said in a press release Sunday.
Mayorga's 13-year-old son was also in the car, and both were taken to Bridgeport Hospital to be treated with non-life-threatening injuries.
Ing was transported to St. Vincent's Hospital, but succumbed to her injuries, Lt. Scinto said.
According to police, no charges have been filed and the fatal accident is under investigation. Lt. Scinto said in the release Sunday at the department's traffic division would be handling the investigation.
Trumbull firefighters and Trumbull EMS extricated both drivers from their respective cars, the report said, and Stratford EMS also responded to the scene.
The section of Nichols Avenue was closed for six hours Saturday, Oct. 24.
