Cops: Student made 'Newtown' threat

The 18-year-old student at Cooperative Educational Services who allegedly threatened a Newtown-like shooting had a history of behavioral problems at the school, according to Trumbull Police.

James Patrick Ryan, of Stratford, attended the Oakview Drive school that provides services to a range of special needs students. The school has programs for students with problems ranging from emotional and behavioral to speech and psychological needs.

According to Deputy Chief Michael Harry, Ryan, who turns 19 next month, was told Friday morning, Jan. 18, that he could no longer attend the school. His mother went to pick him up, and as they were leaving Ryan made a threat referencing the recent school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School
