The Police Commission is planning to hold a special meeting this afternoon at 4:30 at Trumbull Police Headquarters. An evaluation of its chairman, Roger McGovern, is the sole topic on the agenda. McGovern is currently under investigation after a Stop & Shop cashier accused him of harassment and demanding cash payments over a minor traffic incident.

Under the Town Charter, the commission chairman is responsible for calling meetings and setting agendas, but First Selectman Tim Herbst, an ex-officio member of the commission, has the authority to call meetings of various town commissions under some circumstances.

The commission is a volunteer panel appointed by the first selectman. The charter calls for six members, though there currently are five members and one vacancy. Democrats have nominated Tom Tesoro to fill the spot though Herbst has not officially appointed a sixth member.
