On August 27, 2016, The Trumbull Police Department hosted a Shop a Mile in Her Shoes event at the Trumbull Shopping Plaza in cooperation with the Center for Family Justice and the Trumbull Shopping Plaza.
The purpose of the event was to bring awareness and education of services the Center for Family Justice provides to domestic violence, sexual violence and child abuse victims.
The Center for Family Justice brings all of their services for those affected by these acts under one roof. Services range from crisis intervention, police reporting, prosecutors, civil legal providers and counseling. The Center is available 24/7 by calling 203-384-9559 for domestic violence matters or 203-333-2233 for sexual violence assistance needs.
The Trumbull Police Department is an active member of the Center for Family Justice and as such I am also a member of the White Ribbon Campaign, which is comprised of men who have taken a stand to end violence against women. Nearly 1,000 calls are handled annually at the Center.
If you think a loved one is being abused physically or emotionally, be patient, listen and express concern. Encourage them to seek help from a professional or an organization such as the Center for Family Justice as soon as possible. In Trumbull, the Center for Family Justice has a satellite office located at the Mary J. Sherlach Center, 121 Old Mine Road.
Once again, I thank First Selectman Timothy Herbst and the Director of the Center for Family Justice, Debra Greenwood and all of those who helped us bring this important message to the community.
