Booth Hill Road home struck by distraction burglars

The Trumbull Police Department is investigating a burglary that took place at a Booth Hill Road home around 3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 23.

According to a press release, police are looking for a 20 to 30 year old Hispanic male, short in stature and wearing a hat with the letters “RA” on the front who is suspected of working as a team with another man who stole cash and jewelry from inside the residence.

Police said that the distraction burglars came to the home Monday afternoon, and the first male suspect asked the homeowner to look at some tree work her neighbor was having done. That’s when his accomplice stole the items from the homeowners bedroom.

“He reportedly was communicating with another person on a two way radio as he distracted the resident by talking about the tree work,” said Police Lt. Leonard Scinto. “The resident discovered the burglary when she entered the house and noticed the jewelry box in the bedroom open.”

The report said that a white van was seen leaving the area.

Trumbull police are advising residents to be wary of persons who attempt to get them to exit their residence for whatever reason and contact the police as soon as possible if they suspect they are purposely being distracted.
