Trumbull man represents stabbing victim, case settles for $407,000

An East Hartford woman who was viciously stabbed by her neighbor has been awarded $407,113.03 by the New Haven Superior Court after defended being defended by a Trumbull man.
Teresa Craft, a woman in her 60s, was brutally attacked by her next door neighbor, Michael Okeke, while she was home alone on Jan. 11, 2013. Craft was immediately rushed to the emergency room with multiple stab wounds to her head and shoulder.
Craft’s injuries were so severe that they have left her scarred both physically and mentally. Having lost her peace of mind as well as her job with the National Federation of the Blind of Connecticut (and with limited ability to work in the future) due to the physical injuries she sustained paired with the malicious nature of the attack, Craft is pursuing a case against Okeke in an effort to garner the finances required to support her healing process and help her move on with her life.
Represented by Trumbull resident Brian V. Altieri of The Law Offices of Balzano & Tropiano, PC in New Haven, the defendant, who moved to Nigeria after the attack, was defaulted for failure to appear.
At the hearing in damages, Craft testified about the physical and emotional trauma she suffered as a result of the attack.
"Teresa testified both honestly and credibly, and the judge evaluated the damages accordingly" said Altieri. “This is an important first step in Teresa’s road to recovery.”
A separate case is still pending against the defendant’s mother who, according to Altieri, “knew that her son was going to harm people, yet failed to act reasonably in preventing this attack.”
