The town of Fairfield and Fairfield Chamber of Commerce will co-sponsor the 2013 Fairfield Sidewalk Sales Event, which will be held, rain or shine, in Fairfield Center on Saturday, July 27, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Select merchants will offer a preview of sale merchandise on Friday, July 26.

More than 50 Fairfield businesses are expected to participate in this year’s event, setting up stands and offering a variety of merchandise for sale along the Post Road from the Heritage Square Shopping Center to the Promenade at the Brick Walk. Admission is free.

Sherman Green will feature activities for children and families, where a climbing tower, a slap shot hockey contest and dunk tank sponsored by Letarte Swimwear and the Ludlowe girls swim team, are all planned. Activities will also include a visit by BB, the Bluefish Mascot, and McGruff, the Crime Dog as well as face painting by Put on a Happy Face.

This year’s event will feature live musical entertainment at multiple venues scattered throughout the downtown. Musicians will be playing from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 to 4 p.m., at venues set up at the Brick Walk, at Sherman Green, in front of the Community Theater, near the Fairfield University Bookstore and on Donnelly’s Walk.

“This year promises to be better than ever with live musical entertainment at various venues within the downtown, special menu offerings at our many fine participating restaurants, and activities for children and families,” Fairfield First Selectman Michael Tetreau said. “I encourage people of all ages to come to our downtown and experience our array of quality businesses.”

Free parking is available at the Fairfield Train Station on the day of the event. For more information on participating vendors, restaurants, music and activities, visit fairfieldct.org/sidewalksale. Check for updates on the Town’s Facebook, facebook.com/fairfieldct.

Sponsors for this year’s event also include Fairfield Magazine, Hearst Media/Fairfield Citizen, BizzBuzzTV and Abbey Tent & Rental.
