First Selectman Tim Herbst proclaimed Jan. 19 as Stern Village Volunteer Day last week.

This proclamation recognized the Stern Village residents for making a positive impact on the Stern Village community.

The Trumbull Housing Authority held its third annual Stern Village breakfast to show their appreciation.

“This is my favorite event for the residents,” said Harriet Polansky, executive director. “I started this in January 2013 to acknowledge our residents who have given their time and energy to help their neighbors or have gone above and beyond to someone in need.

“These amazing senior citizens, some are in their 90’s and residents under 62 years old, coordinate and run activities like Bingo, Pokeno, Game Night and Movie Night, plan and coordinate parties, are part of our Stern Village Neighborhood Watch and our RU OK? Program,”she added.

For this event, Curtis Clement, assistant manager of Stop & Shop on Quality Street, donated over $100 worth of food. Robin Lafontaine, manager of Bruegger’s Bagel Bakery in Trumbull, donated dozens of bagels.
