One woman was killed and another was injured Sunday morning when the car they were riding in was rear-ended on Hempstead Road near West 43rd Street, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

At 2:20 a.m. Sunday, a Chrysler sedan struck a red Ford pickup was that was disabled in the road. The truck’s driver told investigators the male driver and two women passengers in the sedan were alive when he left to get help.

Minutes later, the Chrysler was badly damaged when it, too, was rear-ended by a maroon Dodge pickup.

When first responders reached the scene, they found Shannon Deville dead in the backseat of the Chrysler and transported April Ward, who was in the front passenger seat, to a hospital. The Chrysler’s driver left the scene before the second collision, investigators said.

The crashes are under investigation.
