Twenty-three young musicians from Fairfield County and the New Haven area celebrated the completion of a challenging two-week session at Chamber Music Central\u2019s summer festival held at the Unquowa School from July 29 to Aug. 9. Among the towns represented by students in this year\u2019s session were Fairfield, Monroe, New Haven, Newtown, Trumbull, Weston, Westport and Wilton, as well as South Salem, N.Y. Early in the spring, the participants were selected through an audition process and then placed with peers at similar performance levels for this unique musical experience, now in its 16th year. Working in duos, trios and quartets, the students sharpened their skills in coaching sessions, rehearsals, and theory and master classes under the tutelage of professional musicians. At a gala concert performance at program end, the young musicians showcased their achievements for family, friends and the public at Southport Trinity Church. Chamber Music Central, based in Westport, was created for the purpose of providing chamber music study and performance opportunities to intermediate and advanced piano, string and woodwind players. Begun in 1997 as a two-week summer music camp, CMC now operates as a year-round program, offering three sessions in the summer, as well as fall and spring semesters.
