School Briefs - Jane Ryan School

Literature Week will be April 8-12. The program is as follows:

On Monday, April 8, Rob Buyea, author of Because of Mr. Terrupt, will have lunch with fifth graders at noon, a discussion with the fifth grade at 1 p.m., and meet with fourth graders in the media center at 2 p.m. Buyea, a former Connecticut elementary school teacher, has been nominated for the Nutmeg Children’s Books Award in Connecticut. He will share stories with a strong message about passion, determination, setting goals, and dealing with disappointment when goals aren’t achieved.

Tuesday, April 9 is Townwide Read Aloud Day. Community leaders, friends and parents will be visiting each classroom to share their love of reading with all students.

Wednesday, April 10, author Suzy Kline will be speaking with grades 2-3 in the gym at 10 a.m. Kline, author of the Horrible Harry Series, will discuss her life as a writer, how she is inspired to write her stories and will share some of her own classroom adventures.

Thursday, April 11, author Patricia Polacco will discuss how she overcame her struggle with learning disabilities to become a writer of children’s books. She will speak with all children in the gym at 1:50 p.m.

Author Alyssa Capucilli, who has written more than 50 children’s books, including the Biscuit series, will speak in the media center with kindergartners at 9:30 a.m., and grade 1 at 10:30 a.m.
