Frenchtown School
Visitation Day at Frenchtown is Friday, October 16 in the afternoon for those parents that received invitations from their children’s teachers.  Some were invited and attended on Tuesday, October 13 in the morning.

Friday, October 16, will be the Fathers’ Club Movie Night at 7pm.  Flyers will be sent home announcing the movie.

Frenchtown’s Eight Annual Observance of Democracy Day will be on Tuesday, October 20.  It will focus on our town race for Trumbull First Selectman.  The program begins at 9am with a reception to welcome guests.  The candidates, incumbent Timothy Herbst and challenger Vicki Tesoro, and Mrs. Gloria Francesconi, representing the Trumbull chapter of The League of Women Voters will introduce themselves to our third graders.  At approximately 10am there will be an assembly for fourth and fifth graders in the cafetorium.  The candidates will speak about the importance of voting, their histories, candidacies and hopes for the town.  Mrs. Francesconi will speak about the history of The League of Women Voters and the role it plays in educating the public about our democracy. Frenchtown families and the general public have been invited to attend.  Students and staff should wear red, white and blue.

Every Tuesday will be Spirit Day.  Students and staff will wear blue and white, Frenchtown spirit wear or a shirt with a Wolf on it. The last Tuesday of every month is Citizenship Day when students and staff wear red, white and blue.

Wednesday, October 21, from 7pm – 8:30pm will be our Parent Reading and Math Night for parents of students in grades 3, 4 and 5.  The same will be held on Thursday, October 22, for parents of students in grades K, 1 and 2 again from 7pm to 8:30pm.  You will meet the Reading and Math specialists, learn more about Common Core State Standards (CCSS), Smarter Balanced Assessments (SBAC) and our curriculum, learn about our on-line resources and ways to help your child(ren) at home.  Please being and electronic device of your choice.  Guest Wi-Fi is available.  The PTA will have a meeting both nights from 6:30 to 7pm.

On Thursday, October 22, PTA will present the ABC’s of the Budget, to parents from 9am to 10:30am in the cafetorium.  All are welcome to attend.

Photo retake day will be on Thursday, November 12.  Students that were absent will have their photos taken that day.  More information will be sent home closer to the retake day if you are interested in having your child’s photo retaken.

Jane Ryan School
Volunteers are needed for the Pumpkin Fair on Saturday, October 24 from 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.  Many opportunities to help include cake walk, bounce houses, face painting, games, pumpkin decorating, prizes, raffles.  How to sign up?  Go to  Every adult volunteer gets a book of 20 game tickets and either a ticket for the raffle for a $100 visa gift card or 20 additional tickets for each subsequent shift.  If you have questions, please contact Ruth Cruz or Lorin Goldstein.

Open House will be on Wednesday, October 14 for grades K-2 and Thursday, October 15 for grades 3-5.  Times are as follows:  Grade K and 1 from 9:00 a.m. To 10:30 a.m.  Grade 2 open house will be from 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.  On Thursday, Grade 3 Open House will be from 1:15 p.m. - 3:00 p.m., Grade 4 from 1:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m .and Grade 5 from 10:45 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.  Please help simulate a typical day in the classroom.  No cell phones, no cameras and no pre–school or infant siblings.

The Pumpkin Fair flier went home in kids backpacks to purchase tickets in advance for the Fair on Saturday, October 24 from 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m, rain or shine.  Tickets cost more the day of the fair ($10 for 20; $15 for 40).  Purchase your discounted tickets NOW at $8 for a batch of 20 tickets/$12 for a batch of 40.

Juice box collection is underway.  Each classroom has a basket for collection.  Baskets are emptied periodically.  The main recycling bin is located in the cafeteria so students can place juice pouches in from their lunches.

After School Enrichment – Please remember to fill out your child’s weekly attendance form.  This form must be sent in every week for your child to be dismissed to ASE instead of their normal dismissal procedure.

Tuesday, Oct. 20 & Wednesday, Oct. 21: Visitation/Open House. This is your chance to see what happens in your child’s classroom.  Teachers will email sign-ups with the specific time slots for their classes. Grades K, 1,5 on Tuesday; Grades 2,3,4 on Wednesday. Parents only, please.

Friday, Oct. 30: TASHUA MASHUA – Save the date to celebrate Halloween as a family with Tashua friends, games, music and dinner.  Look out for more details to come.
