Stamped canvas bags — Teens: Back to Basics-Read summer activities. Friday, Aug. 16, 3-4 p.m. Decorate your own. Use letter stamps to put your favorite movie, music, or literary quote, etc., on a canvas bag. All materials provided. Limited to 20 participants, going into 6th-12th grades. Register.

Prepping Our Gardens for Fall — With Nancy Baker of Gardens by Nancy. Thursday, Aug. 22, 6:30-7:30 p.m. Baker will focus on preparing our beds as well as which perennials and winter vegetables to plant. She is a CT Certified Advanced Master Gardener, and more. Details online. Free. Register.

Family Chess Club — Saturday, Aug. 17, 10 a.m.-noon. Selva Selvarajan’s Family Chess Club will assemble on the first and third Saturdays (except for long weekends). Chess learners and experts from 4-94 are welcome. Meet in the Children’s Section with your own board, or come to watch.
Open craft tables — Back to Basics-Read. Monday, Aug. 19, 1-4 p.m. Visit the library, borrow some books and create a craft to take home. Tables with materials will be in the area for summer fun. Every Monday. Drop in.
Is summer reading a drag for you? — Are you in 4th or 5th grade? Come read and discuss with friends. Thursday, Aug. 22, 7-7:45 p.m. August’s book is Wild Girl by Patricia Reilly Giff. Last meeting in Children’s. Read a few chapters on your own each week; then discuss, have fun, and enjoy refreshments. We will read the next chapter together before you leave. Details online.
