Golden Eagle March Band presents Charlie Thomas and The Drifters

The Trumbull High School Golden Eagle Marching band presents Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Charlie Thomas and The Drifters. This show is to benefit the THSGEMB as well as their award winning Guard and Winter Percussion groups. It takes place on Sunday, April 28, at 3 p.m., at Trumbull High School, 72 Strobel Road.

When the Five Crowns appeared as an opening act at the Apollo Theater in the late ’50’s, it was Thomas’ voice that George Treadwell heard before he fired his famous group, The Drifters. He hastily recruited The Crowns to become the new Drifters. The new Drifters first release was in 1959, a song called “There Goes My Baby.”

In 1988 Charlie Thomas was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Thomas also received the Rhythm and Blues Award in 1999 for lifetime achievement and was inducted in the Vocal Hall of Fame in 2000.
