Trumbull resident Stephen Cardone, a senior at Christian Heritage School, won first place for high school non-fiction writing in the Trumbull Arts Festival's Literary Competition on Sunday, Sept. 15. Stephen's essay recounts a harrowing experience from his childhood when he accidentally fell into a Wyoming river and was heroically rescued by his father. During the ordeal, Stephen lost one of his sandals to the raging waters, but later discovered the other sandal under a nightstand in his parents' bedroom, kept there by his father as a constant reminder of the preciousness of his son's life.
