Auditions for 'Inherit the Wind' take place in Shelton

Center Stage Theatre director Gary Scarpa has announced that auditions for Inherit the Wind will take place on Saturday, Feb. 1, between 10 a.m. and noon, at the theatre’s location at 54 Grove St., in Shelton. Scarpa said that the play requires a large cast of more than 20 actors, and that he is seeking both experienced and inexperienced actors for the production.

“At Center Stage, we are always looking for new talent of all ages,” said Scarpa. “Inherit the Wind has a variety of roles for all ages, from major speaking parts to small speaking roles and non-speaking roles. It is a great opportunity for those new to theatre to get involved.”

Candidates will be given a scene from the script to read at the audition.

Inherit the Wind, by Jerome Lawrence and Robert Edwin Lee, is a fictionalized retelling of the famous 1925 “Monkey Trial,” in which science teacher John Scopes was tried and convicted for teaching Darwin’s theory of evolution, violating a Tennessee law that forbade teaching any theory that conflicted with the Biblical conception of Divine Creation.
