Trumbull teacher helps student win vocal competition

Stephanie Dezelin sang “O Mio Babino Caro” to win first place in the Barnum Voice competition.

The 11-year-old Derby resident is a student of Beverly Blanchard, a voice teacher from Trumbull.

This competitive journey started on June 2 at an open audition. The line wound around the block to get a turn to sing for the judges. Stephanie sang “Think of Me” from Phantom of the Opera as her first song. During semi-finals she sang “Sabben Crudele,” an Italian Aria.

After winning the finals, Stephanie received a trophy, $500 and a $50 gift card. She already used the card to take out her friends out to breakfast after the show.

Stephanie is a straight-A student, cheerleader and basketball player at St. Theresa School.
