Trumbull schools make national Top 10 list

Nationally recognized website has named Trumbull in its Top 10 on the list of the most in-demand school districts in the United States. This ranking is determined by looking at listing views for the Trumbull housing market on, compared with other communities. Trumbull was the only Fairfield County community to make the Top 10 in this category.

“We are pleased with the recognition of our outstanding public school system,” said school board Chairman Loretta Chory. “Our recent student performance data shows strong improvements and our school system, under the leadership of Superintendent Dr. Gary Cialfi and his outstanding team of administrators, teachers and staff, work diligently to give Trumbull students the best opportunity to succeed.”

Trumbull was ranked #10 on the list of most in-demand school systems, right behind the Region 5 district, which includes Bethany, Orange and Woodbridge. Orange’s K-6 district also made the Top 10, pulling in at #4. Rocky River City, Ohio, topped the list.

Chory said the data confirmed what she and the other board members already knew.

“Trumbull is a destination of choice for families looking for an affordable town with outstanding schools to raise their children,” she said.

The ratings were reached by comparing school system ratings on the website with the listing prices of homes in communities. On average, a home in a town with a school system rated 9 or 10 on sold for 77% higher prices than similar homes in nearby towns with schools rated 6 or 7.

“It’s common knowledge that buyers are often willing to pay a premium for a home in a strong school district,” said Javier Vivas, research analyst for “Our analysis quantifies just how good it is to be a seller in these areas.”

Trumbull’s “in-demand” listing refers to another criterion: value. The in-demand communities are considerably more affordable than other school systems with a high premium of ownership like Beverly Hills, Cal., Scardsale, NY, and Saddle River, NJ.

“This recent recognition is another strong indicator of how our school system is not only earning state, but national recognition,” said Herbst. “In Trumbull, you get a school system that is exceeding performance as measured against our neighbors, while being able to get more value for your home and have a lower tax burden.”

Herbst added he wasn’t surprised by the ranking.

“Having seen the hard work and dedication by Dr. Cialfi, the Board of Education and staff, I always felt Trumbull schools ranked with any in the country,” he said.

Cialfi laid the credit squarely at the feet of the school system’s many employees.

“This is another opportunity for me to express gratitude and appreciation to the teachers, administrators, and all support staff for their dedication and commitment to the academic and social growth of our children and to the advancement of our community,” he said.

Cialfi said he was particularly pleased with the combination of school performance and value.

“From any assessment, people want their children in Trumbull schools,” he said. “Whether it is well-heeled people who can afford to live anywhere, or families looking for good value, Trumbull schools are very much in demand.”
