In the end, Monday's predicted rainstorm was too much for Memorial Day Parade organizers to overcome.

The Town of Trumbull announced Sunday night that the 2016 parade would be cancelled due to the forecast, while early morning events at the Vietnam War Memorial would be held as previously scheduled.

Trumbull, like several area towns, made the decision before Monday morning rolled around.

There was limited precipitation around 8 a.m. Monday; however, according to the National Weather Service, showers and possibly a thunderstorm — mainly before 3 p.m.  — are predicted along with a chance for more rain after 3 p.m.

"Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall," the service said.

There's a 100% chance of precipitation with the new rainfall predicted to be between a half and three quarters of an inch.
