Hikes with Tykes: Exploring Vernal Pools — Saturday, April 23, 10-11:30 a.m. Ages 3 and up; cost: $5/family. Discover the magic of vernal pools—wetlands that fill with water in spring and dry up in summer. Program will be introduced with a story about vernal pools, guests will then set out on a hike to explore and discover the surrounding vernal pools Wear clothes to get muddy in! Families are encourage to bring a picnic lunch and stay and play after the program.
Beginner's DSLR Photography — Sunday, April 24, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Ages 16-adult; cost: $40/person. Do you have a fancy DSLR camera that is stuck in Auto mode? Even if you take most of your photos with a little point-and-shoot or just your smartphone, come on down! We will cover: Aperture, Shutter speed, ISO, Basic camera operation, Tips for improving photo composition, A little bit about light and flash, Q&A. Class includes a presentation, hands-on with our cameras and shooting inside / outside. Bring empty SD card and a charged battery, manuals and lenses.
Stargazing with the Astronomical Society of New Haven and S'mores — Saturday April 30, 8:30-10 p.m. (weather permitting). All ages welcome; cost: $5/person. Come sit with us by the campfire and listen to intergalactic stories while members of the The Astronomical Society of New Haven lead us in looking through telescopes to check out the Moon, deep sky objects like galaxies, star clusters, and nebulas – and maybe even a few planets and their moons! Telescope viewing ages 7 and up.
