Trumbull/Monroe Relay for Life is Friday

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life movement symbolizes hope and a shared goal to end a disease that threatens the lives of so many people, according to organizers of this weekend’s Relay for Life Trumbull/Monroe.

Participating in a Relay For Life event is a way to take action and help finish the fight. This Friday, June 6, all are welcome to the Trumbull Monroe Relay at Trumbull High School.

Opening ceremonies begin at 6 p.m. The theme is “A Night at the Oscars.”

The event is co-chaired by Deb Heim of Monroe and Barb Susi of Bridgeport. Committee members are Debbie Bojnec of Trumbull, Eileen Defelice of Trumbull, Linda Dreher of Waterbury, Andrea Hreschak of Monroe, Carrie Milks of Newtown, Matthew Reale, Esq. of Trumbull, Paula Wojna of Bridgeport,

Event co chair/entertainment chair Deb Heim a night filled with great entertainment and lots of fun. Added to this year’s line up is Trumbull resident, Earl Benedetto who sings like Frank Sinatra.

There are more than 35 teams registered including over 300 participants and volunteers.

Tumornadors is one of the returning teams. Team captain, Thaddeus Cullina and team members Rory Morrison, Mike Zabin, Julia Murphy and Jake Rudolph are seniors at Trumbull High School. Teammate Matt Freed is a senior at Fairfield Prep.

“We relay because we recognize what a prevalent issue cancer is, especially in the United States. It is for that reason that we devote time and effort into Relay for Life of Monroe/Trumbull,” Cullina said.

As is Monroe/Trumbull’s tradition, Snappy Dawgs Gourmet Food Truck will be on hand. This year’s wellness tent is sponsored by Lisa Serra and Salon Sanctuary. Lisa and her staff will offer chair massages, Reiki, beauty makeovers and tips.

The teams have a wide variety of games to play and items to buy as they’ve been planning all year for our big event. For survivors and their caregivers there will be “Night at the Oscars” reception for the celebrity “VIP’s” of the night.

Food will be provided by local restaurants including:

• Bella Rosa Restaurant, Monroe

• Jennie’s Pizzeria, Monroe

• Lake Zoar Drive-In, Monroe

• Marisa’s Restaurant, Trumbull

• O Bar and Grill, Trumbull
