Trumbull High School Thespians prepare to take the stage later this month in the 1964 classic Hello Dolly! From dancing and singing to art design, costuming, and lighting design, more than 120 THS students have been working together since December to bring this Broadway favorite to the Trumbull community. Recently a small contingent of the performers and crew went “on tour” to all six elementary schools, performing excerpts of the show and encouraging young students to become involved in the arts.

Hello Dolly! stars Trumbull High School juniors Alex Luft and Zac Gottschall (last seen as Roger Davis in RENT: School Edition) opposite each other as Dolly Levi, the meddling matchmaker, and Horace Vandergelder, an embittered widower.

Senior Annie Stachura plays Irene Molloy, and Junior Michael Lepore (winner of the 2014 Connecticut High School Musical Theater “Outstanding Performance by a Supporting Actor” award for his role as Tom Collins in RENT: School Edition) plays Cornelius Hackl .

Also featured are Katherine Griffin as Minnie Fay, Jack Leonard (Barnaby Tucker), Lauren Chase (Ermengarde), and Matthew Buckwald as Ambrose (nominee for the Connecticut High School Musical Theater “Outstanding Performance by a Supporting Actor” award for his role as Angel in RENT: School Edition).

Director and Trumbull High School English Department Chair, Jessica Spillane, describes the show as an exciting part of, “an educational program that seeks new challenges for its students every year. Our program strives to introduce students and audiences to a vibrant mix of productions, from Golden Age musicals to the newest and most innovative contemporary theatre works. Hello Dolly! represents the best in classic American musical theatre. From the eye-catching sets and costumes to the pitch-perfect music and hilarious comedic moments, this production will delight audiences.”

Production Assistants Ian Maloney and Lindsey McMorris said, “we are so excited for this year's musical. The cast and crew have put a tremendous amount of time and effort into this production. With past shows like RENT: School Edition, Crazy For You, The Wiz, Fiddler On The Roof, and many more under our belts, Hello Dolly! will undoubtedly keep Trumbull High's legend alive.”
