The Weller Foundation honors six Trumbull high students

In recognition of their exemplary achievements, six Trumbull High senior students were recently presented with awards by The Weller Foundation, Incorporated at its Annual Awards Banquet held on April 27, 2016 in the Dolan School of Business Dining Room at Fairfield University.  

Dr. Thomas McMorran, Superintendent of Easton, Redding, and Region 9 School Districts, gave an inspiring keynote address to an audience of scholarship/award recipients, parents, and high school administrators.

The recipient of the $5,000 Weller Education Scholarship, Lindsey McMorris, is the daughter of David and Maria McMorris of Trumbull. This scholarship was established in 2002 by the Foundation to encourage and financially assist a senior to further their interest in teaching elementary or secondary education. Lindsey will be attending The University of Connecticut this fall to study Spanish and secondary education.

The recipient of the $3,000 Vincent A. Voccia Vocational Award is Jasmin Bautista, daughter of Amodo Bautista and Maria Cruz of Trumbull. This award was established in 1983 by the Foundation to be presented to a senior to assist in preparation for a vocational or technical career. Jasmin will be attending Paul Mitchell School this fall where she will pursue a cosmetology program.

A finalist competing for the $14,000 Barton L. Weller Scholarship, Anuj Sisodiya is the son of Mahesh and Anju Sisodiya of Trumbull. This scholarship was established in 1978 by the Foundation and is presented to a senior for a five-month independent study or research project. Anuj’s project was entitled, “Enery Savings & Awareness Week” for which he was awarded $500. Anuj will be attending either Tulane or George Washington University this fall to pursue business/finance.

The recipient of the $500 Senior Science Award is Connor Gillis, son of John and Jennifer Gillis of Trumbull. This award was established in 1962 by the Foundation to honor an outstanding senior who has demonstrated the ability to achieve recognition in science. Connor will be attending Marist this fall to pursue computer science with data systems and cyber security.

The recipient of the $500 Eleanor F. Moore Business Award is Stephanie Chow, daughter of Yeening and Danping Xu Chow of Trumbull. This award was established in 1973 by the Foundation to honor an outstanding senior who has demonstrated the ability to achieve recognition in business.  Stephanie will be attending Ohio State University this fall to pursue international business and marketing.

The recipient of the $500 Paul W. Broggi Communications Award is Robert Schlatter, son of Todd and Leeann Schlatter of Trumbull. This award was established in 1986 by the Foundation to honor an outstanding senior who has demonstrated the ability to achieve recognition in communications. Robert will be attending the University of Connecticut this fall to pursue digital media and design.
