Pneumonia vaccinations are still available at the Trumbull Monroe Health District (TMHD). There are no residency requirements to receive a vaccination.

Those interested may call TMHD at 203-452-5195 to schedule a vaccination with the public health nurse. The cost of the vaccination is $60. Cash or checks are accepted. TMHD accepts Aetna, Anthem, Cigna, Connecticare and Medicare, Part B.

All insurance cards must be brought to the clinic for billing purposes, as well as a driver’s license, if available. Participants are responsible for the insurance co-pay or deductible, at the time of vaccination. If your insurance company does not fully cover the cost of the vaccination, TMHD will bill you the balance. Residents who are unable to pay the vaccination fee should contact the Public Health Nurse.

Pneumococcal disease can be prevented with a vaccination. The vaccine is safe and effective in preventing illness and death due to pneumococcal disease. The pneumonia vaccine is recommended for:

• All adults 65 years of age and older

• Anyone 2 through 64 years of age who is a smoker or has asthma or has a condition that lowers the body's resistance to infection.

Pneumococcal disease is an infection caused by a type of bacteria called Streptococcus pneumoniae. When it enters the lungs, it can cause pneumonia. Pneumonia is a serious infection and can be life-threatening. Symptoms of pneumococcal pneumonia include fever, cough, shortness of breath and chest pain.
