Allison Targowski is an 8th grade student at Madison Middle School and a member of the National Junior Honor Society. One of the requirements of this group is to complete a service project during the 8th grade year.

When Allison saw a post about a dog in need at the Trumbull Animal Shelter, she wanted to help. Snickers is a 4-year-old Chihuahua dog currently at the shelter. He has been diagnosed with cataracts in both eyes making his vision very impaired and eventually he will go blind. Obviously, a pet with a medical need would be hard to get adopted. The shelter was asking for donations to help cover the $2,000 plus surgery that is needed.

Allison met with the director of the shelter and they decided on a fund-raiser to sell Snickers candy bars to help Snickers the dog. She has started selling by filling orders via her Instagram as well as her mom’s Facebook page. So far she has raised more than $200 by selling candy alone.

This week she also decided to set up a GoFundMe account which allows donations to be taken online. This site is adding up as well.

Allison is planning on setting up a table at some sporting events around town and assisting at the pet adoption day that will be held at the shelter on Saturday, April 25.

Anyone who would like to help Allison’s fund-raising efforts, you can request candy ($2 a bar) by emailing actargowski@gmail.com or going directly to her fundraising website http://www.gofundme.com/pt3eew.
