Mother’s Day plant sale and Farm Fair — The Trumbull Agriscience and Biotechnology Center, 536 Daniels Farm Road (next to Hillcrest Middle School), will hold a Mother’s Day plant sale and Farm Fair. The annual plant sale will be held Wednesday, May 9 through Saturday, May 12, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and will feature plants grown by the Agriscience students. The Farm Fair is Saturday, May 12, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., and includes tractor hayrides, sheep shearing, petting zoo, crafts fair, refreshments and more.

Literary competition — The 40th annual Trumbull Literary Competition, sponsored by the Trumbull Library, is coming soon. Open to grades 3-12 and adult. Poetry, fiction, non-fiction, and creative writing categories. No residency requirement. Awards will be given at the Trumbull Arts Festival on Sunday, Sept. 16, at the Trumbull Library, 33 Quality St. Deadline for submissions is Friday, June 1. Household Hazardous Waste Collection — The Town of Trumbull Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day is set for Saturday, June 9, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., at 307 Indian Ledge Park Drive. next to BMX Facility. This includes Trumbull, Monroe, and Easton residents. Must show CT driver’s license. For more information, contact Trumbull Public Works at 203-452-5070. Bring materials in original containers securely closed. Pack containers in sturdy upright boxes and pad with newspaper, if necessary. Never mix chemicals together. Never smoke or eat while handling hazardous materials. Leaking or broken containers must be contained. Do not leave vehicles unless instructed to do so. Secret Garden Tour discounted tickets — The Nichols Garden Club will offer discounted advance on-line ticket sales for its annual Secret Garden Tour on Sunday, July 15. This self-guided tour will feature five local gardens selected by the Nichols Garden Club for their beauty, uniqueness and interest. Each garden is hosted by garden club members and volunteers, and complimentary refreshments will be served at each site. The tour runs from 1-5 p.m. Advance tickets are $30 per person, or at the door on the day of the tour at $35. Free DVD rentals — The Trumbull Library has eliminated the $1 DVD rental fee in an effort to increase in the usage of the collection. There will still be a $1 per day fine for overdue DVDs.
Discounted movie tickets — Trumbull Parks and Recreation Department offers discounted movie tickets to Bow Tie Cinemas year round. Tickets are $8 each, a savings of $3/ticket, and redeemable at any Bow Tie Cinema locations; 3D movies and BTX theaters will assess additional surcharges.
