The Run Walk for Health & Hunger to benefit The Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County will kick off at 8:30 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 17, starting and finishing at Chelsea Piers Connecticut, 1 Blachley Road, in Stamford. The 5K USATF-certified course travels through Stamford and Cove Beach Park roadways. Mayor David Martin of Stamford will officially start the event. This is the only run walk in Fairfield County that specifically supports hunger and 100 percent of the event net proceeds and funds raised by teams will be donated to The Food Bank.
The entry fee is $30 per adult plus three nonperishable food items and $15 per child (ages 7 to 15) plus one nonperishable food item. There is no charge for children aged 6 and under. Teams are encouraged to participate. The team raising the most money will receive special recognition. The first 250 registered participants will receive a t-shirt, race bib, goody bag and finisher’s medal. Prizes will be awarded to overall winners and first, second and third place age group winners, male and female. Beth Foster, Star 99.9 Midday Host, will serve as the announcer.
