Our Saviour’s to host benefit concert for Bridgeport Rescue Mission

Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 160 Hill Farm Road, Fairfield will host a benefit concert featuring the Boston-based ensemble Palaver Strings on Sunday, June 5, at 4 p.m. A freewill offering will be collected to support the Bridgeport Rescue Mission. The event is open to the public and clients of Bridgeport Rescue Mission are expected to attend. A reception will follow the concert.

Palaver Strings, a musician-led string orchestra, was formed in 2014 by a group of young musicians from the Boston area dedicated to the collaborative interpretation of masterworks of the classical repertoire. More information about the group may be found at palaverstring.org.

According to the group’s website, “Each member of Palaver Strings is passionate about taking classical music beyond the concert hall to engage with diverse and new audiences. It is in this personal and unconventional setting that Palaver Strings is able to use music to aid the discussion of social issues, promote education and healing, and inspire our peers and community to support the arts.”

Our Saviour’s Music Director Dr. Alice Caldwell said Palaver Strings will perform “lively music for string orchestra by Mozart, Grieg and Tchaikovsky. With residents of the Bridgeport Rescue Mission as our guests in the audience, the concert will close with the singing of old-time hymns in contemporary settings, including hymns written by the 19th-century hymn writer Fanny J. Crosby, whose legacy lives on today in the Mission facilities.”
