On Friday, May 3, more than 800 Madison Middle School students were treated to a health fair in place of their regular science classes. This is a day long in-school event bi-annually with the support of local businesses and organizations. Valerie Forshaw, principal of Madison had this to say, “This year’s health fair was one of our best yet. The combination of fun, physical activities and educational materials available helped make it a valuable and fun learning experience for our students.”

Under the direction of Health Fair co-chairs, Maggie Carroll and Randy Schulman and dozens of parent volunteers, students enjoyed 30 engaging and interactive exhibits. Topics included stress relief, exercise, healthy teeth, skin and eyes, good nutrition and healthy snacking, first aid and more.

Students were eager to try some Zumba moves, under the direction of Cindy Andrezewski, who kept a constant stream of students moving all day. The Trumbull Police Department had a roll over car simulator on site modeling for students the importance of wearing seatbelts, as well as challenging them to “walk the line,” while wearing vision imparing goggles. Melissa McGarry from TPAUD provided a booth where kids could finish the statement “Madison Students Don’t Drink, they” with magnets stating a variety of activities such as read, play sports, shop, volunteer, exercise, etc. Cathy Savvaides and Karissa Giaquinto, personal trainers, challenged the kids with physical activities and exercise while volunteers from The Edge Fitness Club timed students as they performed a variety of exercises.

The Madison PTA is grateful to all of the organizations and donors who generously volunteered their time and resources for the benefit of the students. A heartfelt thank you goes out to Ben Stratford, Naturopath, Lori Breiner, Chiropractor, Julia Ziobrowski, St. Vincent’s Behavioral Health, Penny Petrow, Trumbull Counseling Center, Amy LeMaine and the Madison Peer Mediators, Cathy Savvaides and Karissa Giaquinto, Personal Trainers, Officers Velky and Duva from the Trumbull Police Department, The Madison guidance counselors, Trumbull EMS, The Trefz family, Costco, Stop and Shop, Total Learning and Therapy Center, Melissa McGarry, The Edge Fitness Club, Adriana DeSousa, Steve Carr and Randy Schulman, Optomotrists, Behavioral Optometrist Trumbull Eye Care, Trumbull Monroe Health, Gateway Dietetic Technology Students, Dr. Ellen Karandisecky, A Winning Smile, LLC, The Madison gym teachers, Diannia Zaffina, LMFT and Cindy Andrezewski, Zumba instructor.
