Local Lion Clubs hear AARP fraud prevention speaker

Byron Peterson, a member of the AARP Advocacy Leadership Committee and the AARP Connecticut Leadership Council, recently spoke to members from the Lion Clubs of Monroe, Trumbull, and Shelton.

During this very informative presentation , Peterson reviewed two of AARP’s booklets: “AARP Watchdog Alert Handbook,” and “The Con Artist’s Playbook.”

Some of the categories of scam discussed and some of the preventive measures that should be taken included tech support scams, sweetheart scams, the grandparent scam, and information obtained by stealing your mail. Preventive tips reviewed included protecting your social security number, monitoring your bills & financial accounts, reviewing your credit reports, and being cautious of scams.
