Helping a family in need — kickboxing and Zumba team up

A special kickboxing and Zumba class will support local parents who are battling cancer.

Joan and Augie Mantone are each battling stage four cancer, while raising their twin daughters, one of whom has Down Syndrome.

On Sunday, Sept. 7, from 2-4 p.m., Hanko Ryu Martial Arts is teaming up with Zumba instructor Heatherly Hane Law for a combo kickboxing and Zumba class to help the family.

“We’ll kick, punch and hip hop in a tag team-style class that’s sure to be a high energy blast,” organizers said. “Each participant will get a coupon for a free kickboxing class and enter a raffle for a free Zumba birthday party. All fitness levels are welcome. You can also buy a ticket and come cheer on participants.”

Tickets are $20 and available at, under “Kickboxing Zumba Fundraiser for the Mantone Family,” or e-mail to make a donation or with questions.
