The Trumbull High School freshmen class delivered 80 baskets March 25 to the Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital, completing the class of 2016’s “Spring Baskets” fund-raiser and community service project.

The freshmen class officers and advisors shared their project idea of assembling spring baskets to donate on the Trumbull High website, in the student bulletin and among classes in late February. Items such as arts and crafts supplies, bubbles, stickers, playing cards, card games, and puzzles as well as monetary donations were collected from March 4 to March 11.

After school on March 20, the class officers, as well as other freshmen volunteered their time to assemble the hundreds of items collected. The class advisors proudly delivered 80 Easter baskets on Monday, March 25 to Ellen Good, manager of the child life department at Yale New Haven Hospital. The spring baskets were welcomed with appreciation and were delivered throughout the week to the children within the various units of the hospital, according to class advisors Katie Laird and Jennifer Payne.

The advisors said the project was a huge success and they are hoping to do it again next year as sophomores or facilitate with the new freshmen class officers and advisors.
