What makes the holidays so enjoyable? Is it the gathering of family members under the twinkling lights of the Christmas tree laughing at those super embarrassing old memories from when you were a kid? Or the gifts that your loved ones selflessly give to you, in hopes of seeing beaming smiles of pleasure from you? Or maybe it is the spring in your step that happens around this time of year, while thoughts of sugarplums dance in your head, and holiday songs play from November to New Year’s Eve? Or Perhaps, it’s the succulent smells of the special holiday treats that your family enjoys with pleasure of heavenly desserts and tender meats we indulge in.

Unfortunately, not every family can enjoy a nice hot, home-cooked meal during the holidays. Holiday breaks are not an escape from reality, nor a change of routine for some families. For holiday breaks mean hunger, the dull aching pain that shakes you down to the soul.

However, Trumbull’s Emergency Medical Service is hosting a “Fill the Ambulance” Food Drive on Dec. 6 at the Trumbull Stop & Shop from 9 a.m. 4 p.m. to benefit the Trumbull Food Pantry. In hopes of lowering the hunger rate in town for the holidays, every donation matters. Please, while going through your usual routine grocery shopping trip of the week, pick up one or two non-perishable food items and drop them off with the towns EMTs who will be stationed by the ambulance all day. Last year we were able to fill the entire ambulance to the roof, and we were met with cheers when we dropped off the food to the pantry. We hope to achieve the same results this year. Please support your town’s Food Pantry in making this holiday season an enjoyable experience for all.
